Families

The Educational Department of Ocean Space offers educational activities, workshops, and more for families and children both during our current exhibitions and remotely during the closing period, to explore the relationship between art and science, collective action, and awareness of the importance of the oceans in everyday life and the for the conservation of the planet.

These projects offer significant and accessible opportunities to experiment, learn while having fun, and develop creative thinking to find solutions for the protection and conservation of the environment.

OCEAN FAMILIES 2025

As part of the 2025 exhibition program of Ocean Space, "otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua” [other mountains, adrift beneath the waves] curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel, the education department is offering a series of four workshops for children and teenagers (from 3 to 12 years old), with an intergenerational and intersectional approach through which participants will be able to discover and learn about the different forms and interactions of bodies of water.

With “Think like the Ocean” participants will explore the forms that water can take and the elements with which it enters into dialogue through multiple artistic and performative techniques. The activities will be led by young dancers and performers, encouraging intergenerational exchange and “peer tutoring”. The exhibition space becomes a poetic place of polyphonic, collective, and transformative reflection. The cycle will end with a final event at the end of September.

THINK LIKE THE OCEAN

“Think like the Ocean” is a series of visits and workshops for adults and children closely connected to the new exhibition season at Ocean Space, designed for all audiences.

The new exhibition, "otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua” [other mountains, adrift beneath the waves] curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel, highlights the power of improvisation~freestyle as an aesthetic tool and strategy capable of transcending terrestrial and extractivist perspectives on the planet. The series of activities aims to (re)think oneself in an ancestral way, both with and in the water.

The Ocean represents the origin of life in all its varied forms, but do we really know it through all the senses we possess?

Children aged 3 to 12 with the “Ocean Families” program, and adults with the “Ocean for All” program, will be guided in their journey through the new works with moments of exploration, discovery, and understanding of the multiple interactions of bodies of water in a fully inclusive way.
