As part of Ocean Space's 2024 exhibition program, "Re-Stor(y)ing Oceania" curated by Taloi Havini, and in collaboration with LAS Art Foundation, with the exhibition "Josèfa Ntjam: Swell of spæc(i)es", the educational department offers a series of four workshops for children and students (aged 3 to 25), with an intergenerational and intersectional approach through which participants can discover and learn about the marine microcosm.
Each session is introduced by a scientist, followed by a workshop where participants will be guided in (re)creating a zoomarine environment, experimenting with various artistic techniques. Activities are led by young artists and performers, fostering intergenerational exchange and peer tutoring. The "exhibition space" becomes a poetic place for collective reflection. The series concludes with a final event at the end of September.
The Ocean, with its interspecies, represents the origin of life in all of its many forms.
A proposal to gain new knowledge with an innovative and fun approach.
Who will be the inhabitants of Zoomarino?
ZOOMARINO. FROM THE ORIGINS OF LIFE TO THE JUNGLE OF THE SEA
September 14 – Third Session
Location: Academy of Fine Arts of Venice
Time: 11am - 1pm
Age: 7 - 13 years old
Call for drawings!
Young participants aged 7 to 13 will be introduced to zooplankton and phytoplankton from a scientific perspective. These micro particles move and are visible through a microscope. But how do they move? What actions do they perform? How was the first form of animation created?
Humans have always observed nature to gather information and study the world around them. The children will be guided by the Ocean Space team and young artists in training from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice to construct a zoetrope, an analog device that simulates movement. It consists of a cardboard cylinder with a strip of paper inside, illustrated with a subject depicted in successive stages of its movement. By spinning the cylinder and viewing the images through slits in the side, the impression of movement is created.
The workshop will be conducted by young students from the Academy of Fine Arts who will support the children in creating drawings for their own zoetrope. Young artists studying drawing and related disciplines at the Academy are invited to participate in this co-operative workshop to guide the children in the experience of analog animation.
