TBA21–Academy's Ocean Space is pleased to host Università Iuav di Venezia with "Venice and her Sense of Water", organized on the occasion of the international conference "Earth, Water, Air, And Fire: The Four Elements of Fashion".

The event aims to be an experiential journey exploring our relationship with water and how it is shaped in the peculiar urban landscape of Venice.

  • READINGS FROM "VENICE AND THE ANTHROPOCENE: AN ECOCRITICAL GUIDE", 7:30 PM

Introduced by Cristina Baldacci (NICHE/Università Ca’ Foscari) and Luca Cosentino (wetlands), the artists Pietro Consolandi and Sara Lando will read some excerpts from "Venice and the Anthropocene. An ecocritical guide" (wetlands, 2022). The readings will be accompanied by the screening of some of the artists's works.

Readings and dialogues by Iuav Fashion and Visual Arts MA students Pablo Paz Peñalba and Leah Harper will follow.

A sound performance by Chiara Cecconello and Luca Gallio will conclude the evening.

GUESTS

Cristina Baldacci is an associate professor in History of Contemporary Art at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where she is also affiliated with THE NEW INSTITUTE Centre for Environmental Humanities (NICHE). At NICHE she coordinates the Ecological Art Practices research cluster.

Chiara Cecconello is a musician and performer, whose research moves across disciplines, from music to performing and visual arts. Coming from art and music studies, she is interested in exploring intra-action between body, sound and space.

Pietro Consolandi is an artist, researcher and co-founder of the Barena Bianca collective. He is currently research fellow at THE NEW INSTITUTE Centre for Environmental Humanities (NICHE), where he studies the possibility of implementing Rights of Nature in the Lagoon of Venice. In 2020 he received TBA21–Academy’s Ocean Fellowship, and has since then been collaborating with the foundation, currently as OCEAN / UNI Research Lead.

Luca Cosentino is co-founder and president of the publishing house wetlands, which deals with environmental, urban, social, anthropological and cultural themes with ideas generated in Venice and endowed with a global value.

Luca Gallio is a musician with a background ranging from classical music to electronics, whose research focuses on acoustic space, its activation and the ability of it to change from sonic material.

Sara Lando is an artist who works with mixed media and techniques (photography, illustration, collage) to explore identity and the way in which memory rearranges over time.
