On Friday October 4, in collaboration with Sea Shepherd, Ocean Space will host an evening dedicated to the protection of the Mediterranean and its inhabitants.

Connecting to the themes that will be discussed during the second edition of the Confluence of European Water Bodies, hosted at Ocean Space from October 3 to 6, the event highlights the interdependence and interconnection of humans with nature and the importance of protecting the Ocean.

Andrea Morello, President of Sea Shepherd Italy, will present the extraordinary results of the seventh season of Operation SISO, an ambitious mission that has seen the organization engaged on the front line against illegal fishing and in defense of marine biodiversity, sharing the joy of being able to see the sea reborn, thanks to the commitment of volunteers from all over the world.

The event will not only be a moment to learn more about Sea Shepherd's activities and activism for the protection of the seas, but also to discover the latest work of the singer-songwriter Camilla Fascina, aka Corally.

Corally, an artist who donates her work to Sea Shepherd Music, will present her new song "Pescecani" as a live preview, a text that denounces the cruelty of shark finning and invites us to defend sharks, looking at this tragedy from the victim's point of view. The song also leads us to reflect on the parallels existing towards every form of violence, from the deep waters of the oceans to the home.

During the evening, iMilani, the main sponsor of the event, will explain how it transforms plastic waste recovered from the sea into concrete solutions to protect sea turtles.

The evening will end with a 100% plant-based aperitif, created by Marco Bravetti of Tocia! Cucina e Comunità, with drinks kindly provided by Perlage and Select Aperitivo.

The evening is also an opportunity to promote a fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go to the SISO campaign, in particular to bring the Conrad ship back to Italy, currently engaged in Greece to save octopuses and monk seals. Head over to the fundraiser.

Join a community of people who believe in a sustainable future and actively contribute to safeguarding the planet.

Biographies

Sea Shepherd Italy is the Italian branch of Sea Shepherd, an international nonprofit organization founded in 1977 whose mission is to stop the destruction of natural habitat and the slaughter of wildlife species in the oceans worldwide, in order to conserve and protect the ecosystem and different marine species. For nearly 50 years, Sea Shepherd, through direct action, has been actively combating illegal fishing, investigating and documenting violations of laws protecting the seas. To date, Sea Shepherd is a worldwide movement with independent national and regional entities operating in more than 20 countries. Sea Shepherd Italy, founded in 2010 by Andrea Morello, has always acted alongside the institutions to supervise, report and counter illegal activities that deface and despoil our sea with specific missions.

Corally, stage name of the singer-songwriter Camilla Fascina, is an artist committed to environmental activism through her music, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of protecting the oceans and marine species. Since 2019, she has supported Sea Shepherd with the show The Victory of the Whale, in which she recounts the precious and fundamental work of Sea Shepherd volunteers and the campaigns at sea against illegal fishing. She has worked as a lecturer at the University of Mantua and collaborated with Lindsay Kemp, David Bowie's coach, with whom she made the music video "Time". She has released several singles, including "Shelley", "L'Unica Risposta", "Nessun Pianeta B" and "Out Of Control", and has participated in important musical events such as the Eolie Music Fest and the Special Olympics World Games 2023. Corally is also the first Italian recording project to donate the rights of its songs to Sea Shepherd. Listen here to her songs.

Operation SISO: In collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment, the Coast Guard, the Port Authority and the Guardia di Finanza, Sea Shepherd Italy's Operation SISO aims to protect the Tyrrhenian Sea from undocumented and undeclared illegal fishing; in particular from the use of “drifnets” and the indiscriminate use of FADs (Fishing Aggregating Devices). Thanks to seven years of Operation SISO campaigns, the commitment of Sea Shepherd volunteers, and the collaboration with the Italian authorities, the results achieved have been significant: 70% reduction in illegal fishing activities in the Tyrrhenian Sea; the rescue of thousands of marine animals, including turtles, tuna, sperm whales and other endangered species; the removal of longlines, driftnets and hundreds of FADs, responsible for serious damage to the marine ecosystem.
