Join us for the artist talk with Nadia Huggins, Tessa Mars and curator Yina Jiménez Suriel, and a morning of conversations, reading and listening sessions in collaboration with Storefront for Art & Architecture.
Swamps and underwater mountains—geographies shaped by extraction, resistance, and adaptation—anchor this sonic and discursive encounter between Storefront for Art and Architecture and Ocean Space. The event weaves together "Swamplands", Storefront’s yearlong inquiry into the swamp as a site of fluidity and struggle, and the exhibition "otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua" in Ocean Space that closes the fourth edition of The Current by TBA21–Academy curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel, focused on the intersection of mountain building, the human perceptual system and emancipatory processes.
Through soundscapes, poetry, and conversation, the program explores deep time, sedimented histories, and the fluid boundaries between art and science. Contributions from Amma Ateria, Cyan Chen, Imani Jacqueline Brown, Jonathan Bustos, Marina Otero Verzier, Monique Johnson, Nadia Huggins, Pedro Uc Be, Sarah Herda, Tatiana Bilbao, Tessa Mars, and Wingston González unfold alongside a curatorial conversation with the Ocean Space and Storefront curatorial teams. Readings by additional guests expand the inquiry, making the floating city of Venice a resonant site for reimagining our relationship to shifting landscapes.
