TBA21–Academy’s commitment to respond to questions of food sovereignty and the food industry’s ecological impact is strengthened in this year’s collaboration between TBA21 and the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023. “FOODSCAPES,” curated by Eduardo Castillo-Vinuesa and Manuel Ocaña, takes viewers on a journey examining the architectures that feed us, from the domestic laboratories of our kitchens to the vast operational landscapes that nourish our cities.
The first event of the public program of "FOODSCAPES" will introduce a series of conversations with the authors of five short films created especially for the pavilion, each directed and produced by a different interdisciplinary team of architects and filmmakers. The conversations will explore how the authors of these films translated the curatorial team's initial prompt into an audiovisual project delving into the guts of our agri-food systems.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
"FOODSCAPES" is a journey through the architectures that feed the world, from the domestic laboratories of our kitchens to the vast operational landscapes that nourish our cities. Through an audiovisual project of five short films, an archive in the form of a recipe book, and a public program of events and collective research, “FOODSCAPES” surveys the present landscape of our food systems and looks towards the future to explore other possible models, ones that are capable of feeding the world without devouring the planet.
The program is conceived in collaboration with TBA21–Academy, Fundación Arquia, European Climate Foundation, Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB), Universidad de Toledo (UCLM) and Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid.
In shared sessions, co-produced with TBA21–Academy at Ocean Space, “FOODSCAPES” will invite experts and architects to discuss ecosystemic implications of the digestion, production, distribution, foundation, and consumption of food and the role that architecture can play in implementing a more resilient agri-food model.
