The first episode, “Screens on the water. Bread, Tulips, Indiana Jones and the lagoon on 35mm.” is dedicated to the relationship between Venice and cinema.
Coming aboard "Nowtilus" are: Mauro D'Avino, author of the book “Venezia si gira!” (Gremese Editore, 2013), which explores how the city has been and continues to be a fascinating set for directors of all ages and nationalities; the director Gaia Vianello who tells us about the “Rete Cinema in Laguna” project; and Edoardo Aruta, who together with Paolo Rosso, created the floating outdoor film festival “Floating Cinema - Unknown Waters”, which takes place on the waters of the Venetian Lagoon.
A fascinating journey through both reality and fiction, screens that look like sails, old cinemas, and projected dreams.

MAURO D'AVINO
Mauro D'Avino was born on July 16, 1970 in Venice, where he lived until 1995 undertaking classical studies. Moving to Milan, he graduated from the European Institute of Design and now works as a graphic designer. In 2006 D'Avino created the "Davinotti", a site concieved as a film database (currently containing contains more than 50,000 titles and about 300,000 reviews), and which has developed by expanding the section concerning Italian film locations, which now contains more than 20,000 entries, an experience that led him to write six books on the subject, published by Gremese.
GAIA VIANELLO
Gaia Vianello graduated from Sciences-Po Paris in development policy, she has worked for several years in international cooperation in North Africa and the Middle East. She has been working in the audiovisual sector since 2009, as an author and director of documentaries, including Aicha è tornata, Les amoureux des bancs publics, e Zulu Rema che ha imparato a volare, and as a producer. She is a a founding member and president of the Rete Cinema in Laguna, an organization that seeks to promote quality independent cinema in Venice.
EDOARDO ARUTA
Edoardo Aruta was born in Rome in 1981, he lives and works between Rome and Venice. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and IUAV University of Venice. He has worked as a set designer and stagehand in theater and cinema, and has simultaneously developed an artistic practice that has led him to exhibit in various fields at the national and international level since 2003. In 2013 he founded the artistic collective Gli Impresari in Venice together with Marco Di Giuseppe and Rosario Sorbello, and together with Paolo Rosso since 2020, he has been the creator and curator of “Acque Sconosciute / Floating Cinema” presented by Microclima in the Venetian Lagoon.
